Dusk

blegh. Exam break. That is why I have not posted in what seems like far too long. And I'm sick to put a cherry on top of it all. I have less than a week left in my first year of University and then it will be back to Calgs. Hmm I wonder how this blog will change with my change of scenery... we shall see I suppose. I have to begin now to think about packing up all of my things and everything that I have accumulated over the past 8 months. Which has got me thinking about how my style has changed and my overall outlook on fashion etcetera etcetera. Coooool.

So last thursday I went to the wonderous Value Village, in East Hastings no less! $10 later and I am now the proud owner of one very large cream colored cable knit sweater and a V-neck Salford University jumper if you will ('jumper' seeing as I discovered Salford University is apparently in Manchester, UK after some intensive research via Google).

Salford University

I like to stick to my leggings, and oversized items. Also gotten even more into florals if that is at all possible. Vintage has also become a predominant part of my wardrobe, like this floral top, just solely because the vintage in Vancouver is so much better than it is in Calgary and I keep finding places that I like more and more for vintage.

Yeahhh so basically I now find myself wearing a lot of oversized clothing. Mainly in the form of gauzy tops, baggy old man sweaters and oversized scarves. Oh and I got a pair of Uggs, at the dismay of my father and sister but what can I say. They are super comf and I am a fan of the overly furry folded down tops. Pretty great for campus livin'. Don't worry. I'm not going to be walking around in my pajamas any times soon. Or ever for that matter. They are strictly for lounging purposes. I honestly don't think that I have worn them off campus to be honest. Yay me.

So I guess you could say that being in University has changed my style. I feel much more at ease about how I dress and realize that its okay to just throw things together and once you build up a few really good items that always work, then everything can just fall into place around those. That is my advice for the day, children.

Oh and I cannot forget to mention the wonderful Jeremy Mizu, great friend and fellow Tavi enthusiast for the modeling tips and photo credits for this post :)

sticky with champagne, it's okay, it's your birthday

Here it is...the moment you have all been waiting for... the birthday pics. We all managed to get nice and cleaned up for Sam, Lauren, Bryan, and Georgia's 19th birthday extravaganza. Wow what a night. Sushi, followed by a party bus, lots of dancing, and a night club shaped like a tunnel. It was pretty epic to say the least.

So here are some of the beauties of the night and all the great birthday looks. Enjoy!

Let's start it off with the lovely Ms. Kim Graves because she just wanted to be blogged about sooo badly and I promised her I would drop her into a Your New Trench Coat post! She is sporting this little black number from H&M's Garden Collection. Really love the rosette sleeves and her little belt that she paired with it. SOooooo cute, Kim!!
Ooo what an attractive picture of me. But here it is, my dress. I put it with Liz's brown belt to bring it in a bit, give it a bit more shape. I can't wait to wear it in the summer and have it all loose breezy. Oh yay summer weather!
Aweee me and Adrian. I must say, I was very impressed with his fashion shillzz when he showed up in the black button down and blazer. Lookin' sharp ;) I on the other hand was wearing a fuzzy purple housecoat and eating a peanut butter and nutella english muffin when he came over all spiffed up. What can I say, I'm a classy lady. I managed to clean up fairly nicely into this though.
Robyn in her new Garden Collection dress (man, H&M should be paying me!). She had to get it in a bigger size because that is all that was left when we went but she was able to cinch it in with a belt which i really like, ads to the whole boho vibe.
Robyn and Lauren, both looking super cute in spring florals. Lauren's BCBG number got sent here just in time from Toronto courtesy of her sister and the lovely manager's discount. Very nice! And the outfit wouldn't be complete without her feathery pink birthday girl tiara!
Sam and Bryan. Birthday boy and girl. Sam in her little birthday ensemble from Urban outfitters, great new blazer and geometric shift dress. Bryan sporting a Hugo Boss collared shirt (martini collection), John Varvatos jacket and Nudie jeans. Well played.
So Adam Lambert made a guest appearance apparently. Oh wait, it's Jeremy. You can't see the rhinestone under his eye in this one but it was definitely there. With the new Holts tank top purchase and blazer. Good investment, my friend.
Oh hey, it's Kim again. And Sam, creepin around the corner haha. You can see the rosette sleeves better in this one. I like.
Evan, Me, Adrian, Maggie and Jeremy at a little pit stop at Stanley park. Such a beautiful view.
The birthday girls and boy.
In da party bus. Yes, the glow in the dark glasses were a necessity.

Well there you have it. Me and all my spiffy friends on our night out on the town for a quadruple birthday celebration. So much fun! Seeing that the school year is almost over too, it was a really nice way to wrap things up a bit and have an amazing night with all the people that we have become so close with over the year. Ohh now I'm going to get all sappy... hold me back!

spring and by summer fall

heyyyy there. believe it or not, spring has sprung. I think I am currently experiencing more of the 'April showers' end of it but spring is here, which means, you can go outside and frolic in meadows and run around and pick flowers or just buy clothes that inspire you to do that and actually look at the spring/summer '10 collections as wearable pieces now.

so can we just talk about this??

The H&M Garden collection. They've done something that I think is pretty awesome, created a spring line that is made of 'environmentally adapted materials like recycled polyester and organic cotton and linen,' all for extremely reasonable (hence the $20 I spent on a dress for Sam/Lauren/Bryan's bday celebration on Saturday)

I won't show you which one I got because I want it to be a surpirise ;)

love love love the dress on the left!!

ruffle-y short shorts are pretty great
tried on the little overall number the other day when I went to look around. Too bad everything was pretty picked over and only had size 10 left. I liked it though, kinda into the whole overall thing these days. The dress on the right was the one that Robyn was dreaming about but unfortunately it was sold out.

I will be sure to post pics of the big night and all the shnazzy outfits!

april fools, art history and all that jazz

I know, I know, it's been a while. so here's me, blogging in art history because i want to reconnect with the blogosphere and such. The thing is, i've been working on term papers galore, only one more to go so the blog has gotten pushed aside a bit.
Ao today, April fools, i decided to get back on the horse so to speak. pretty pumped on the fact that today is the last day of classes before the long weekend, yay, and that i have an easter package waiting for me in my mailbox... can you say mini eggs??

Anyways, enough about my inevitable mini egg binge. Here's a picture I found the other day on studded hearts. Check the miu miu shoes. Amazing. I'm a huge fan of the colours, setting and the overall styling.

I don't know, I feel like I may be in a bit of a blogging slump. So that's all for now. That is all that I have to contribute at the moment. That and I should be paying attention in art history, soak up all the Manet.

Au revoir!

look, listen, take a gander

So here's the thing. I want to keep this blog thing going but it's been a while since my last post. And I have about a million and a half things due in the next two weeks so my posts might be a bit few and far between for this next little while. And a blog actually takes a surprising amount of work, what picture goes where, formatting etc. yeah. But anyways, here's some stuff that I've been into for the last little while that I thought I would share and blog about instead of doing actual work. But this is fun so whatever.

Music and fashion, two things that go great together. Here's some really good music that I've been listening to lately paired with some of my favorite looks from this past fashion week and also just some of my favorite photos. Enjoy :)

Lauren sent me this photo. Something about it that I love, french, chic, classic. Goes well paired with some Interpol -- Take you on a cruise

I believe this is from studdedhearts. It's cute. Like a little Fancy Footwork.
I would love to own this. Maybe then my fingers wouldn't be constantly green from the cheap rings I have. Picture from studdedhearts again. I like this song.

Cherryblossomgirl. Sonia Rykiel Fall/Winter 2010. There's just something pretty great about the contrast and everything happening in this. Something that just works really well when all the elements come together to produce something like magic. Kind of like this song. They're both just youthful, fun, carefree. As cheesy as that all may sound.

Tommy Ton did this for jakandjil. Again, the contrast, just looks so perfect. The black and white reminds me of the xx. How could it not?

Tommy Ton again. I just really want it to be summertime clothes weather also so this song is good.

ALEXA! What goes well with a Brit, some more Brits -- Bombay Bicycle Club, cannot get enough.

This photo is just so incredibly nostalgic of that 70s/80s feel for me, probably why I'm so into it. Taken by thecherryblossomgirl again. Chloe fall/winter 2010. Here's a little throw back, some Smiths. Some things are just timeless.

Tavi. Enough said. Here's a little Spoon just because it's a really great song. (You're going to have to deal with a live version because I couldn't find anything else -- still really good though).

I love anything to do with lights, light manipulation and all that jazz so this pic is pretty great. Also this video and this video. So many lights, so awesome, so cool, so pretty :)

I hope you enjoyed that little music/photo scavenger hunt paired with some fashion pics. Now I guess I should get to work...

let's get some shoes.

Well it's official. My blogging assignment is over and this blog is now strictly for my own personal enjoyment and the select few readers that I may have (thanks dad!!).

Anyways...This year's fall/winter 2010 collections had some pretty killer shoes that I can't seem to be able to get over. These Balenciaga beauties in particular. I'm kind of in awe ... I don't know who would wear these but more people should. Whoever you are, I would like to be friends with you. Thanks.

Miu Miu had some stunners this year too. Really love how ladylike and quirky these are. Especially into the black with the little slip cover for the top of your foot, or whatever you want to call it.

and I know that these came out last year but I couldn't help but throw them in now that we are on the topic of shoes. Chloe fall/winter 2009 lace up boots. In the words of Rachel Zoe... I die.

Now you have to watch this because I couldn't resist making it the name of this post without throwing the video in somewhere. Awesome.

STELLLAAAAAAAA

It was Stella McCartney time at Paris fashion week today. I love Stella. She's been one of my favorites for quite some time now. I wear her perfume and I aspire to be able to afford her clothes. She's passionate about the environment, and the daughter of a Beatle. She knows what works and what doesn't and has really mastered dressing women how they want to be dressed; feminine but still strong and confident, sexy without being vulgar, fun, flirty and all of that good stuff while still making really beautiful and artful clothes that can be worn time and time again.

The collection was Stella through and through, sticking with neutrals that make a major impact, like buttery nudes, blacks, and grays that were later followed by a few pops of colour like a really vibrant orange that she has seemed to really own, as well as a vibrant magenta which is a nice addition to the fall/winter palette. I also really love how she does knits, oversized and bulky yet somehow body conscious. She also went on to make quite a use for paillettes, putting them under sheer organza which I thought made for a really pretty light reflecting, without being too in your face, texture. Also true to Stella's form was the use of lace, again layered under organza making for interesting dimension and a new way of thinking about layering for fall.

As an interesting note, she apparently opened the show with a fake recording of a voicemail that Tiger Woods left to one of his mistresses, hmmm, interesting. I don't really know what that's supposed to say about the clothes or the inspiration for the collection but I'm thinking it may have a connection to the strong, clean silhouettes and that whole girl power message that she does a good job of conveying.
She closed the show as she does every year with a Beatles song. For this fall collection it was Mother Nature's Son. How sweet.

I was definitely not disappointed by Ms. McCartney this year. Now I can't wait for her Spring collection... only 6 more months!
