So I went to an art auction Thursday night with some friends. It was put on by UBC's Department of Art History, Visual Art and Theory at the Anza with students showcasing their work which pretty much gave people a chance to come out and show their support. It was a silent auction followed by a live auction. I mostly went because a friend of mine wanted to look into getting some art for his condo and thought this would be a good place to have a look. Also, it was a cooler thing to do on a random Thursday night than sitting in residence and painstakingly deciding what movie to watch for the 1 000th time... I mean studying. So we went. We got a good chance to check out the pieces; everything from the extremely eccentric (deconstructed dolls with woven adornments) to the more modern. Here's some of the stuff.
Here are the dolls. Yeah...
My friend Bryan who was looking to buy was really liking the two paintings on the left.
It was a very artsy scene. Another one of my friends/roommate/bff, Sam, who also came is looking to get in to UBC's visual arts program so it was a interesting opportunity for her to see what she could be doing in 3ish years and get the whole vibe.
Overall I thought it was a cool event, good to go out and support good ol' UBC students. There was even some live music and free food which is always a bonus! In the end Bryan didn't end up getting any of the pieces and we ended up going to get sushi. 'Twas a good Thursday night!
